Teeth become discolored for many reasons. Coffee, tea, red wine, and cigarette smoke yellow the teeth. Certain medications, such as tetracycline, cause the teeth to become gray. Even the natural act of aging affects the color of teeth.
During the tooth whitening process, a gel containing hydrogen peroxide is placed on the teeth. A light is focused onto the teeth, causing the hydrogen peroxide gel to break down. This bleaches the discolorations without harming or changing the tooth’s structure. A clinician highly trained in the Zoom!® teeth whitening procedure continually monitors the patient to ensure that any exposed tissue is protected.
Because the light used during the tooth whitening procedure generates some heat, patients may experience minor discomfort. But most patients comfortably read, listen to music, or watch television during the procedure. Some even fall asleep!
At our office, Zoom!® teeth whitening results are immediate. Typically, teeth are at least six to ten shades lighter and patients receive a take-home kit to use whenever tooth discoloration reappears. With proper maintenance, our patients enjoy a lifetime of whiter, brighter teeth!
